HEIC, WebP, AVIF or PNG → a real JPEG the portal accepts
"Only JPEG files are allowed" is the error, and the file already ends in .jpg — because renaming a PNG or a WhatsApp WebP does not change what is inside it. Portals read the first bytes of the file, not the name. Snapfix reads those same bytes, tells you what the file really is, and re-encodes it into a genuine JPEG, with an optional size limit for forms that also cap the KB.
Made for
- iPhone photos saved as HEIC that a portal refuses
- Images saved from WhatsApp or the web as WebP
- AVIF images from modern websites
- Screenshots and scans saved as PNG but renamed .jpg
How it works
- Snapfix checks the real format from the file header and shows it before converting — so you know why the upload failed.
- The output is a true JPEG: re-encoded pixels with a JPEG header, not a renamed copy.
- Transparent areas (PNG, WebP) are filled with white, because JPEG has no transparency.
- Set a KB cap if the form has one; the best quality that fits is used.
- iPhone HEIC: Safari on iPhone and Mac can open HEIC, so conversion works there. Chrome and Firefox on Windows cannot decode HEIC — on the iPhone set Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, or share the photo to yourself as JPEG, then use Snapfix for the size.
Why this is the fix
Every exam and government portal validates the file header, and that is exactly the check a renamed file fails. People then compress or resize the file repeatedly, which never fixes it, and blame the portal. The honest fix is a real re-encode, which is what Snapfix does — plus one thing most converters skip: it tells you what the file was to begin with, so the next photo does not repeat the mistake. Nothing is uploaded, which matters because these are usually ID photos.
How to do it
- Select the photo. Snapfix shows its real format and pixel size.
- Add a KB cap if your form has one, then press Convert.
- Download the JPEG and upload it. The badge confirms it is a real JPEG.
Questions
Why does the portal reject my .jpg file?
Because it is not a JPEG inside. Phones and messaging apps save HEIC, WebP and PNG, and renaming does not convert them. Snapfix shows the real format and makes a true JPEG.
My HEIC file will not open on this computer.
Chrome and Firefox on Windows cannot decode HEIC. Use Safari on an iPhone or Mac, or set the iPhone camera to Most Compatible and retake, or share the photo as JPEG first.
Will the photo lose quality?
JPEG is lossy, so one re-encode loses a little. Snapfix uses high quality unless you set a KB cap; keep the original for printing.
Does it change the pixel size?
No, unless a KB cap forces it. For an exact pixel size use Resize image or an ExamPic preset.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. It is decoded and re-encoded inside this browser tab.
